My Mo Rocks a Mohawk!

Yeah, I did it. I gave my precious baby girl a Mohawk! A cute one too. We were just sitting around for Mother's Day and I was playing with her ponytails and said to myself, 'These need to be done over.' So I did and as soon as I combed her hair loose I said Mo! You're getting a Mohawk! She said, "A Mohawk?" "Yep!" I tell her,"with pretty spiral curls." The spirals is what did her in. I get her everytime if I tell her alot of curls are going to be involved.

She got a little antsy at the end while I was curling her hair, but I think she thought it was worth the wait. She thought she was so cute. And she was.

5 months down, 10 to go!

The closure

Ok, don't laugh. I'm trying to be creative here. I made my first quick weave and gave her a funky fringe. I did have inspiration. Oh well, I tried. It only gets better from here.
I learned what not to do: Don't try to make a quick weave or wig with mixture of human and synthetic hair. So HA! I learned something anyway.
BTW: Some of the more seasoned students and 1 instructor said that my closure is one of best they had ever seen on a the first try. Yeah!

One of Sherrill's Newest Advance Students

That would be me!! I'm nervous and excited. So far all that has happened is I changed classrooms and have a styling station that I staked out. The freshman instructor (Ms. Leary) kicked me out! Can't believe it. The first day of the transition, I went straight for the freshman classroom, partly out of habit. Ms. Leary made me do a quick fast U-turn. She said "I don't even have your file anymore. Good-bye!" Can ya'll feel the love? It's ok though. She's gonna miss me. Now I have new classmates. Well some new and some are from the freshman class with me.

4 months in!

Time is sure zipping by. It seems as though my graduation date in January is so far away, but I must admit that it feels as though I just enrolled last week. With in the next 2 weeks I should be transitioning into the advance class. There is where I will be on the clinic floor receiving clients and showing off how much I have learned right? I am really nervous, but I feel very confident. I have had 3 clients at the school already. This opportunity came about when most of the advance students attended a hair show in Atlanta this past February. I was so nervous about performing services that I forgot to take pictures! Out of the 3 I did get one picture. A real cutey pie. Her mom just wanted her hair in cornrows. Mom was pleased, but cutey pie was very tired of sitting in my chair and wanted to go home. I still managed to get a smile.

Maybe next time mom will let me put beads in her hair.

The long layered cut

Yeah, I've been putting my shears to work nowadays.

This is how a mannequin looks before a haircut.

And this is after. See the nice layers flowing?

Such hard workers

I can say for myself that I am a hard worker in everything that I do. I come to school and go straight to work. What was surprising was that when I actually came up for air from my work I noticed that my fellow students were working too. Well most of them were busy working. Here are some of our accomplishments.
This is E-Breezy hard at work. He's in the barber-stylist program. Most guys that enter this program have never tried to put rollers in someone's hair. A rollerset is often pretty difficult for them. So after 2 weeks of thinking about trying to attempt a roller set and 2 hours of actually trying, this is what he came out with...........
Pretty good huh? Not bad for his 1st good attempt.

He's pretty happy about it.

My first real hair cut. The Bob.
Whatcha think?
Maybe I'll work on hair enhancements next ( weaves, quick weaves)
